Protect Your Flying Privileges In the San Juans

Happy New Year to all my fellow pilots in the San Juans,

It is time to renew your membership in the San Juan Pilots Association.    Why do you want to spend this money you say.   Well the answer is, you are supporting your advocacy group fighting for your flying privileges in the San Juan Islands.

Did you know that the SJPA was founded in the late 80’s to fend off a closure of the airport.  Turns out a sudden increase of retirees to the islands began building around the airport, only to discover that airplanes make noise.   They threatened to sue the Port of Friday Harbor to close the airport.

In response, a group of local pilots gathered at Carla Higginson’s law office to create a counter measure to this threat.   After a number of meetings the fury died and the threat subsided.    This group of pilots, led by Carla, was the genesis of what would become the San Juan Pilots Association.   Since then the SJPA has fended off a number of threats to our flying freedoms.

Our flying privileges are and will continue to be threatened by Canada and their desire to control OUR AIR SPACE.     This is our current ongoing issue.

So please support the SJPA with your $25 annual dues.   We make it easy to pay.   Simply go to http://www.sanjuanpilots.org right now and use pay pal or your credit card.

  •      On the web site press the tab “Join”
  •      On the “Join” page, press the “Donate” button
  •      Now you can simply pay using Pay Pal or your Credit Card

You can also pay using snail-mail, the address is SJPA, PO Box 874, Friday Harbor, 98250.

Thank you for your support,

Working for you, The San Juan Pilots Association
