Friday Harbor Airport Update – Sept 7

Construction on the Taxiway Alpha reconstruction project is continuing on schedule. We look forward to opening Taxiway A2 Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, so the three northernmost exits will be available. This should ease the need for back taxiing for most aircraft. At that time, the run-up area on the south end of the runway will be closed for reconstruction. We anticipate completion of the entire taxiway by September 24th. As a side note, you will notice when the taxiway re-opens that our guidance signs have changed. FAA Advisory Circulars require that taxiways be ordered numerically and alphabetically from one end of the airport to the other.  The main changes are that from south to north the taxiways will be designated A1, A2, A3, A4, B (parallel taxiway)C (Fed Ex Ramp)D (turn to transient)E (transient)F (north taxiway). Until then signs may be a little confusing with some having been installed and some yet to be installed.

Please plan on night closures for the week of September 17th through September 24th in order to install signs next to the runway. Airport personnel will be on site to take care of special circumstances or medical flights. The closures will occur from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am local every night.

As always, we appreciate your patience and welcome any calls or questions about the project.
