Bob Jamieson Flies his Hatz

After 25 years of work, the Hatz flies.  And SJPA member Bob Jamieson fabricated every part on the airplane, except the Lycoming O-360 and prop.

Bob and airplane above, Monday 6/6 near Ernie’s, where the restaurant overflowed with area pilots to honor his achievement.  It was organized by George Mulligan, who brought a couple of sheet cakes for the well-wishers.  There’s no more perfect pilot event.  Sunshine, an airplane and free cake.

Island Air’s Will Hamilton snapped the above and below, as Bob began his taxi for the first flight.  Below, N311FH lifts off runway 34 into a perfect summer evening.

Bob says it’s not done yet.  He has some finishing touches, and has to fly mandated FAA hours before he can put all of us (one at a time) in the front seat.
